A Return to the Rational

There has been a continuing effort in this Nation to leave the rational behind. You see it in the entertainment industry which has long been the propaganda arm of those who want to  control America and end freedom. Concerts, award shows and businesses now sport logos that would have been familiar to Medieval alchemists and ancient religions. The goal seems to be a return to ancient paganism and the mindless are caught up in thoughts of magic and powers. This content spills ove r into movie and TV content.
Harmless and gaudy fun? No, not really. The symbols flashed around are representative of a dark world. Read history. The ancient world of the old gods and goddesses was a horribly violent and bloody place, an irrational world where people spent time and lives trying to appease and manipulate the spirits. It did not work. Disease and famine mixed with bloody senseless battles to make a fairly hellish world.
The symbols being shown in these modern times have power. Images of Santa and the Easter Bunny bring smiles and the flag evokes pride. Dark symbols of ancient spirits that would scare the hell out of Cthulu evoke darkness. Are those spirits real? It almost doesn't matter. They get in the mind and spread like  a virus. especially on any with mental issues. Don't believe me? Look at the incredible rise in mass murders and human trafficking
Slowly, this changed. The Greeks, Romans and Early Church began to notice the patterns of Nature and began to understand that God had created a World that ran by rational laws. We still do not really understand all of those laws, but we make progress and now live in a World that has less disease, less hunger and far more comfort and security than at any time in the past. We are the product of the judeo Christuan ethical system, that is true, but we are also the product of Greco-Roman logic and the Age of Enlightenment, The Age of Reason, and a return to Darkness would be insane. The Greeks, Romans and Jews loathed witchcraft and sorcery with good reasin. Americans, think,

Happy Sunday

It  has been a strange week and there has been too much serious, so it is time to celebrate Sunday. I don't know how many people now work Sundays, many I guess. That is a shame.
When I was younger, many years ago, few worked on Sunday because most businesses, even grocery stores were closed. Even gas stations took the day off, and it was great. Of course, many did so for religious reasons, bur not all. Folks just realized that they needed a day to relax and be human. There were the big Sunday dinners. games with the kids, games on TV, time to read the big Sunday paper or favorite books. There were walks in gardens and picnics in parks, visits to relatives and time to relax and talk to loved ones.
Now, it is go, go, go, all the time. Work, 7 days a week. We have lost so much. It is a shame, but I have a solution. Bring back Sundays. If you have today off, count your blessings

1984 Revisited

I may seem a tad obsessed with George Orwell's classic novel. but with good reason. I seldom like to urge any sort of mass action, but I believe that anyone in America over age 14 should read this book, If you have read it, reread it. If you hate reading, watch the fine movie version starring Richard Burton and John Hurt.
The story is of a dystopian society. The State requires complete submission. Why? Simply because the leaders want total power. It is that simple. They 'rehabilitate' any who try to dissent by horrible physical and mental torture. Trust me, there are some on this ;and every land who are this [pwer mad., and such extremes are used all over the World. In America, not as much, but some.
Aldous Huxley thought the control would be mire subtle, using drugs and genetic engineering. Wekk the drug oath, while tried, was not workable. Drugs are just too unpredictable, WE seem to be worjubg in the genetic path but we still have not really worked that out.
Personally, I think that the power mad have found a workable path through the entertainment industry, which, when combined with our high technology, is producing mindless and mind numbing  entertainment. Mix in ultra violence and pornographic titillation and  add in mind altering electronics and it's a wonder anyone can still think.

And that, after all, is just what the State in Orwell's novel were after. Remember, if the current entertainment/fascism does not work, there is still sheer brutality. Read the book or see the film and you will know what I mean when I sat '2+2=5'

Time for the Wierd

I try to stay away from the extremely weird. As Fox Mulder said in a later X Files, I don't do woo woo. But woo woo rears its nasty little head here and there.
It is hard to believe that human trafficking still goes on. It does and is a world wide multi billion dollar business. Some involves sexual slavery, but, terrible as that is, that is not all. Some is for labor, nothing else and that is as old as time.
However, I believe that there is more. By their  own reluctant admission, our intelligence agency experimented with mind control from say 1945 to 1975, about. They say they stopped and, odd;u enough,  I believe them. But, what of private researchers. The benefit is obvious, perfect workers. There is another benefit. Through such experiments, some progress has been made in tapping into the mind's hidden potentials, and that has long been coveted by men. Think that's nonsense? Look up the Stanford Research Institute and remote viewing.  No one knows the potential. The techniques used are horrible. Spiritual teachers use gentle techniques, but they are slower . and we are always in a huge hurry.
Let's get even weirder. Why not? There are a lot of folks who want to cheat death. Sorry. can't be done.but impossibility never stops idiots. Perhaps they just don't want to face their Creator. There are 2 paths toward this. Constant organ transplants, which means a whole lot of donors. Who better than slaves, who can also be used in experiments to improve treatment and transplant techniques Also, some think that frequent injections of young people's blood rejuvenates the old and there is some scientific evidence for this. Great, we're creating a race of vampires. The other path to immortality might be downloading the brain into computers with robot bodies, but anyone counting on this is mad. We do not really have much of a clue how the mind works and no real idea how to make a compatible computer.
Let's get even weirder. Throughout human history, human sacrifice has gone on. It is now rare, but there is a disturbing trend toward neo-paganism afoot in the World and these are precisely the sort of groups that gave birth to such loathsome practices. and. yes, slaves were often the victims.
Now, let us leave the world of woo and return to the real. The Trump administration and, especially Jeff Seeions have been waging a significant war on human trafficking, making arrests and freezing asstets. They will likely never stop this crime, humans can be deplorable, but at least they can slow things down. They are to be praised for their effort.

Support Your Local Anything

We have become a Nation obsessed with Grand Spectacles. Massive concerts, more massive Sports Events. Blockbuster Movies and Huge Broadway Shows. They never, ever live up to the hype and on the rare occasions when they come close, what have you gained? All you have done is get a little thrill at a very high price, sort of like paying for a high priced hooker. A quick rush an empty wallet and it's all over.
Last week, for free, and I am really glad I did not pay a dime, I saw some Country Music award show
Music Award show. The show was awful and the music was worse and I bet the crowd paid a huge sum for tickets. You can hear a whole lot better Country music in in little bars or at folk festivals.
Sports? I have seen sandlot pickup games that were more exciting than a lot of Super Bowls and high school baseball games that beat some World Series games for sheer fun.
Same with food. I have eaten at little BBQ shacks and diners that had food that beat a lot of ultra high price restaurants every time, at a small fraction of the cost. Heck, I cook better than most chefs I known, and I have known a few. Also, for better food, buy whatever you can from local \growers. They are less costly than band names and much tastier and, maybe healthier;
I am not cheap, not by a long shot, but I do not like being cheated. As a rule, with a few exceptions, when people start making huge sums, they stop trying and coast on their reputation.  Stop paying idiotic prices for entertainment and watch those prices drop and the quality rise.

Our President

President Trump may go down as our Nation's most interesting President. Interesting does not mean good, but it counts for something, I guess. At one  moment, he is as sophisticated as Cary Grant, at another, as crude as a drunken oaf, with apologies to oafs everywhere, He is very bright, but sometimes has the attention span of a two year old, He is caring and compassionate and that is genuine, but he forgets what he said a few minutes earlier. He is both noble and sleazy. Oh well, we all have our faults.
As far as his performance  the results are mixed. No wall, but we now have trips along the border and that is very good, The economy is up and taxes down, Still not great, but better,
Russia is still annoying, but continuing sanctions will keep them in line and the same with N. Korea. Their little Rocket Man seems to have learned that he can bluster, but he cannot act. The Middle East remains a mess, but that is unchanged since the Old Testament days.
On the whole, a good solid performance under ridiculously difficult conditions. A good solid B.
However, Presidents only have so much real power and Trump is pushing the limits. There are forces in this land and elsewhere who have their own agenda, some on the left, some on the right, and some who defy labeling. They have extreme power and they are dangerous and they are definitely not our friends. The President needs to persevere, hold the course, but always watch his back. Is he a great {resident? Only time will tell. but he has sure surprised me. So far, not too bad and I wish him well.

ISIS and the Myth of the Hydra

We never learn. Everyone makes mistakes, bit to make the same one time and again is lunacy.
First, a bit of history. I have written of this before but it bears repeating. During WW2 a group called The Muslim Brotherhood formed. They were big Hitler fans and when Adolph lost, some Nazis, trying to save themselves put the CIA in touch with the Brotherhood and they went to work for us. They eventually morphed into Al Qaida, then into ISIS. This is all well documented history. Somewhere, things went very wrong and we found ourselves in a total mess.
Like Dr. Frankenstein, we had created a monster and had no idea how to stop its murderous rampage. Finally, ISIS settled into the vacuum of Iraq and spread to the nightmare of Syria. We followed, despite the fact that we had left Iraq in shambles and Syria was in a nasty civik war. Now we should have known from our Vietnam debacle that intervening in civil wars is a bad idea doomed to faikure. But off we went and we drive out ISIS. All well and good and quite an accomplishment,  but, contrary ti our President's statements, we have not crippled them.
In the Greek myth of the Hydta, Hercules is confronted with a many headed monster, the Hydra. Cut off one head, up pops another. Hercules found a solution, but here in the Modern world, alas, we have no such hero.
The solution to our monster is not a good one and one that Americans will and should bristle against. Stay away from them. let other nations fight  their own battles/ When faced with American groups inspired by ISIS up, use extreme force. Destroy them in our own home, like stomping on a swarm if cockroaches. Hercules killed the Hydra by using a scythe to take off all its heads with 1 strike. If all the World could act against ISIS at the same time, they would be gone, but that is not likely so  we mist act alone , in our own land, to protect Americans and the rest of the World will do what they do.
Next, Donald Trunp

The Syrian Question

Let's look at Syria. First, I trust we all agree that Assad is a despicable monster. Second, chemical weapons are horrible. Agreed? Okay.
Now, monster does not mean stupid. Every time a President wants to  pull out of Syria, we have one of the arracks.  Once is an aberration. Twice is coincidence. The third tine, we have a plot.
Now, chemicals in WW1, were very effective because that war was fought in trenches. Fired into a trench, a  shell released  gas, which settled and lingered. causing horrible suffering. The Syrian war is fought in open air. Gas dissipates  and, unless you are right where the shell hits, you likely will be okay. Scared, but okay. Chemical weapons are awful, but mostly as terror agents. All countries ban the, and all have them.
Now, we bomb chemical factories and claim we have crippled the Syrian chemical warfare program/ We should have learned from the 1st Gulf war that missiles are not as accurate as the military c laims. Do not believe Trump's claim of 100 out of 100 hits. Trust me, we hit civilians, those we claim to be protecting. Already. reports are out from reporters on the ground saying we hit very little  and fired few missiles Second, simple physics shows that if you blow up a gas plant, gas will be released, which sort of defeats the whole point.
The truth? Any person my age should get it because we all, mostly, had to read 1984. In Orwell's classic, Winston Smith is shown  that all the constant wars are meaningless, fought over a few feet of useless ground and fueled by lying propaganda.  The reasom? To keep the masses under control. The ultimate goal? None. Just for the sake of power.
Take a hard honest look at the World and that is what you see. A bunch of sick, criminally insane monsters fighting for power..
This is madness and must stop. The first step in solving a problem is recognizing it. Take a hard, hard look. Tomorrow, ISIS, who we definitely have not defeated..

I'm Back

After a spell of poor health, worse vision and a change of residence, I'm back, and no more nonsense. The truth, plain and unvarnished is all you will find here.\
First a word about my former home, Brunswick, Ga. This odd little place is in the 'low country' along the Atlantic coast. It is a pretty place, in a harsh sort of way/ However, its only reason to exist is to  feed labor to the rich folks on the nearby island. All well and good, but they pay sorry, low wages. and things are even worse in the city of Brunswick. Add in the rather taciturn nature of the low country people and you get a distinctly unpleasant vibe. The general atmosphere is hostile uncaring and willfully ignorant/ Customer service is nearly unseen and mostly ill tempered. In short, it is a nasty place to live and I am so glad to be back in the civilized world of North Georgia/
I have gone on about my ex=home because the attitude there is all too common in the USA these days. Stupidity, ignorance, poor judgment and a complete lack if vision rule the land these days and I will be back tomorrow and the day after and every day that I can to start telling the truth about how sorry, how inane and how viciously stupid this once great Nation has become. Trust me folks, this Country was not always this way, and we best figure out what is wrong. Tomorrow, Syria. I will ask the question, how does it punish Assad when our bombings are just killing more civilians who he wants dead anyway, because all of these  missile strikes are just killing even more non combatants, including, yes, kids. In addition, what is the point of bombing a country that has already been reduced to rubble. But, that is for tomorrow. Ah, yes, it  is good to be back.
